Why a Tankadin?

From Mahale on the MainTankadin Boards:

Someone asked 'why would you want to be a pally tank why not just role warrior and tank like you're suppose to' to which I answered.
As a pally tank I can do other things and I have more "tricks". Honestly its like choosing between Superman/Wolverine/Batman. Superman=warrior because they are damn near invulnerable can do crazy damage and everyone loves them. Druid=Wolverine because again damn near invulnerable and can do crazy damage plus heal themselves (feral rage and hots and what not). They tank through sheer ferocity.
Paladins though shouldn't be able to tank. They shouldn't be able to do the things they do as the cards are so stacked against them. Yet they strap on the body armor night after night stock up their utility belt full of blessings, ranged taunts, throwing stars (shields as the case may be), and go out there and do the same job that Wolverine and Supes do but with an amazingly harder time to do it. Plus Paladin tanks have to plan out a lot more in terms of their gear to reach uncrushable much like Batman has a plan for everything.

Now I've always thought of Tankadins more like Captain America because of the Shield Toss, but Batman works to.

Batman ... I like it! Although I think you and I would need altered costumes to make them a bit shorter :)

I always lile Batman better than superman anyway. The guy got more cool stuff to use and yeah can definetly do more tricks that amazed me. I like been a Tankadin for that reason too.

One thing i have always thought of though between Paladins and Warriors. Nothing against Warriors though.

However, the fact that Paladin are not equal to Warriors yet we try damm hard to do the same job the Warriors does, can it be said that Tankadins think more strategic than Warriors do maybe?.

For instance. We have to spend so much time collecting propper gear, research learning our gear set, what gear works for our stats best, upping our stats, getting to uncrushability, obsessing on every point of defense in our gear while giving up some ability, maximazing what we can do withing the gear set we have. Let alone thinking how we will approach an encounter in raid or instance. While a Warrior mostly just collects his gear, walks in and says, yeap ready to go.

With all that mental planning and preping for a boss run in all that weTankadins lack compared to Warriors can it be in some way that good tankadins make possibly better strategic tanks in some way. Warriors don't have to spend half the time obsessing over all the details of things Tankadins have to worry about or overcome just to do the same job that they do. They have less to worry about than we do.

Tankadins spend more time as a group researching every detail of their spec and theocrafting how best to maximize what they have or can do. Whats your thoughs on that.

Its simply what we have to do to be able to get the job done. Warriors can almost tank on auto pilot, Druids are pretty good, but Tankadins have to work really hard at it, just to be as good as those too.

It's just the reality of game engine right now.

I'm willing to go to almost any length to be able to avoid spec'ing Holy.

I agree with this statement. I feel we are like Batman. I remenber the pains I had from my guild when I was trying to become a Paladin Tank. I had to fight some many people on way I feel I can Tank. To even tell people I can Tank a 5 man.

I got my gear set for tanking from 5 Mans dun set 3 and some other stuff and I left Holy spec which seemed to make half the guild hate me. I went on to become a Tank and within the 2nd week I showed them from my Tanking skills + Video's that Paladins can Tank.

I love all the tricks that a Tankadin has at it's hands to use. It is my favorite spec. I had a long hard fight to become one so I help others when I see them and I like sites like yours and maintankadin that help other Pallys take up the amazing job of Tanking as a Paladin. Keep up the great work.
