Flying Solo And Loving It

I was planning a short night last night on WoW since I had promised Mrs. Hammer we would watch a movie.

So I decided to do a little soloing in the Netherwing mines as Prot. Sure, I could have been Ret, and I will likely be Ret for leveling, but I wanted to see how soloing was as Prot.

Wow. I did my normal run in the Netherwing mines, meaning I went and pulled a bunch of Flayers and Ravagers and started Consecrating and using Holy Shield. Only now I had Hammer of the Righteous, and I was using Seal of Vengeance instead of Seal of Righteousness or even Seal of Wisdom.

See before, I could start getting really low on mana after a while and I would need to drink after each combat.

Not last night. I actually ended up Judging Light instead of Wisdom because I rarely had a mana issue thanks to Blessing of Sanctuary.

I was using my unenchanted Suneater. I really should be using Kings Defender, but I think the two swords are close enough and I really dig the skin on the Suneater.

Prot soloing was much more enjoyable than it had been previously. Before, it almost felt like a chore, and one I only put up with because I didn't want to blow 100g to spec Ret and then go back to Prot for tanking. Now, its really fun.

In addition, in what I hope is a preview of things to come in Northrend, I ran into an Undead Mage and Blood Elf Paladin (looked like he might have been Prot, he had the SSO Shield). They were also working on their Netherwing dailies in the Mine. Despite it being 2v1, they left me alone. Then I passed an Orc Warlock. He, too, left me alone. I made sure to leave some groups up so they didn't get bored and decide they needed to attack me.

why would you prefer king's defender? sun eater has 2 avoidance stats on it versus the 1 on kings?

I thought Kings Defender was the 'better' weapon (it drops from a higher tier of content, and has more stamina).

I never really looked closely at the comparison of the two because outside of the Magic Immune trash after Curator, I never used them.

king's has 6 more stamina and 182 armor, but only 13 defense where sun eater has no armor, but 19 dodge and 13 defense. didn't know if there was a particular reason people seem to like it better

Maybe the horde left you alone because they were as obsessed as the rest of us are on doing achievements and trying out new specs. LOL

For me, it's just the skin. I like the Suneater a ton better than the Kings Defender skin.

Now I gotta go farm up some mats for Mongoose.

Personally, I think the sun eater is the best looking 1h sword in the game, including arena gear.

I LOVE the "new" prot pally. I liked the old way (let them burn themselves down with ret aura, damage from blocks), I REALLY like the burst damage we can do with nearly instant avengers shield, the new 51 pnt talent (I really should learn the name of that as I use it all the time), and the ridiculous consecrate damage with the change to spellpower. It also never gets old seeing my avenger's shield hit for 1700 points.

What a fun time to be a prot pally!
First off I ran to Blasted Lands to fill in one spot for the explorer achievement, when I ran into a servant, so I decided to test out my 969*9 rotation, kept running low on mana, then I remembered to throw on the blessing, I watched my mana jump... 10..14...21...31...38...47...55. I started smiling so much I my wife asked me what was going on.

I noticed something after dueling a couple of pally friends. (I have my own level 62 prot pally) Ret Paladins are unbelievably hard to kill. My main is a well geared fire mage, but I even tried speccing POM/PYRO and couldn't kill my pally friends. That bubble puts them in the OP catagory with Warlocks as far as one on one fights for mages. I think that will all change at level 80 as mages will have a combination that might make the playing field a little more even. (can you imagine getting hit with 3 pyroblasts in 2 seconds? It's going to be possible at level 80 should things stay the way they are) Anyhow, I'd have to say that I like the new prot paladin setup as it's very active and intense. I ran BF last night on bobpally and had a blast. I don't think I'll be changing my spec after WOTLK comes out. Prot seems like it will work just fine for leveling.....

I'm quite bad at the P-V-P. So take what I say here with a that in mind.

The bubble is 12s out of 5 minutes. I would think you could kite or blink or do something to put some distance between you and the Paladin for a couple of seconds.
