For your second tank, you'll want either a Druid or a Death Knight, something that can add significant DPS when not tanking.Honors Codehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10603644804340531952noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3190673057769546823.post-38830687204522870582008-05-21T11:05:00.000-04:002008-05-21T11:05:00.000-04:00First let me say I REALLY like your blog. You giv...First let me say I REALLY like your blog. You give great info for people working toward pally tanking and do a good job describing the general day to day life of a pally tank. Thanks.

The issue you bring up here is one that I've thought a lot about recently as I am currently leveling up a pally for tanking. I have lock and mage 70's that I raid with, but wanted to challenge myself by tackling the game from a new angle. I've thought about this because I was wondering if I was wasting my time and would never be able to get a tank spot when WotLK comes out.

I've come to the conclusion that pally tanks will be fine in the expansion even though there will be a ton of people rolling DK. Here's why:

1) Tanks tend to be group leaders. Most people are not comfortable leading.
2) Tanking requires learning a lot about each instance and all the pulls. Most dps basically don't bother trying to learn or remember all the instances, they just want to know what the burn order is and what color spot on the floor to move away from.
3) Unless Blizz takes a drastic turn from current 5 man content, we can still expect that pallys will be the favored tank for all PUGs due to the superb multi target tanking ability. This is my weakest point. Blizz has said they are shooting for 1 hour 5 man runs, and I've seen a ton of QQ about all the 4-6 mob pulls in MagT. These two issues could bring Blizz to developing 5 mans with fewer 3+ mob pulls.

The above points are what will keep pallys popular for 5 mans, here is why I think we will be even more popular for raiding.

4) I believe 25 man raiding is about to take a huge hit. While 10 man raids have some of the same issues as 25 man, there is just no denying that the logistics of 10 man is a ton easier. The casual guild I belong to has 4 kara/za groups, and one 25 man group. There has already been a ton of discussion that none of us want to do 25 man in WotLK. Four 10 man groups supports 8 tanks, 1-2 25 man groups only supports something like 3-6. More tanking spots in the future :).
5) And let’s talk about those tanking spots if I'm right. Granted, DK will become the premier anti caster tanks, but if you only have 2 tank spots in a 10 man run, who are you going to take? Warrior definitely. If I'm RL, it will be a pally or druid for the 2nd spot. While 5 mans "might" have fewer 3+ pulls, I don't think 10 man raids will.

I think the majority of DK's will end up dps, or if they want to tank, in the very few existing 25 man guilds that survive WotLK's mass movement to 10 man raid progression.

Just my 2 cents.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
