Twisted Nether Interview In The Books

Sunday night, after getting our church decorated and ready for VBS, I jumped on the computer just in time for my interview with Twisted Nether. I didn’t break their internet this time and we had a really good chat. I was actually a little nervous going in, worrying about thing I shouldn’t have, like what kind of impression I was going to make on them. I’ve heard hosts talk about guests being a ‘good interview’ and that’s what I wanted to be, but if I ‘tried to too hard’ I’d come off just the opposite. Funny how that works. In a way, it was good that I was tired from decorating my church because it allowed me to just sit back and be myself. I was too tired to do anything else. We had a really good discussion about blogging, tanking, and WoW in general. I got to go down memory lane a bit talking about some my experiences as a Paladin Tank in Burning Crusade. It was also educational for me to realize that things I take for granted like saying “969 rotations” are absolutely nonsensical to ...

Returning To the Arena

Over the weekend, I saw a guildmate of mine advertising in trade chat for a ‘well geared and very skilled Ret Paladin for 3s team.’ I sent him a tell and told him that while I was neither ‘well geared’ nor ‘very skilled’ if they needed someone to help them get their games in this week, I would happy to fill in, until they could find a better Ret Paladin. He accepted my offer and I was invited to their team. It turns out it was my guildmate, who was an Arms Warrior and his Resto Druid 2s partner, also from my guild. So our 3s comp was Ret/Resto/Arms. We found out that their original 3s partner was a Warlock from our guild who recently left the game. This same Warlock had been my 2s partner briefly. My PVP gear is not all that great, only about 300 Resilence. I’m still using a ton of PVE gear, including my weapon which I got my Ulduar 10. I was told my job was to assist the Warrior and try to burn down the other team’s healer while helping to CC targets that were going after our Re...

I Broke Twisted Nether

Apparently, just as the interview was starting last night, Twisted Nether lost their Internet. So we are going to reschedule for some time Sunday evening. I'll post once I have the exact time. Also, if you can't make it to the live show, there will be a recording of it on the Twisted Nether blog. Have a great and safe weekend!

In Flux and Flummoxed

Early in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion, I was stunned to read that blogger, Big Bear Butt , was leveling his Hunter instead of his Druid. I thought that was nuts. He made it clear he wasn’t unhappy with the Druid class or it’s abilitiy to fulfill any of the roles he liked to play. But he didn’t feel any strong desire to play his Druid. In his own words, “See, we know that they’re planning on big changes to the class. Changes that go beyond what our gear will be worth in terms of mitigation. From my doodling on paper, it’s still looking to me like there will have to be changes made to the base Dire Bear armor modifier, or to the Talent tree, or both to get it done. Are any of these good ideas? Realistic? Probable? No, not really, I’m just trying to illustrate the point that we just don’t know what they have in mind. And even if they say something specific, you never really know until it goes live. In truth, we have always known that every class WILL experience changes in the way...

Paladin Vocabulary, "Light"

Let’s start by examining one of the most defining words in the Paladin vocabulary, Light. The two main Paladin Healing spells are Flash of Light and Holy Light. They can spread heals by using Light’s Beacon. These heals are enhanced by Sanctified Light, Infusion of Light, Healing Light, and Light’s Grace. They can further improve their throughput by using Seal of Light. Paladin mana pools are sustained by Illumination and Divine Illumination. Paladin Tanks are Touched By the Light and Guarded By the Light. Retribution Paladins have a Sheath of Light, and one of their best attacks is Judgment of Light. We know that in the Lore of World of Warcraft the Light is a pseudo religion followed by Paladins and Priests. The Church of the Holy Light resides in the Human capital of Stormwind. In the Burning Crusade, we learned of the Naaru, creatures made of Light whom the Blood Elves used to create their own Paladins. In nearly all cultures, Light is synonymous with Good. One example ...

One Phase At A Time

Image
Monday night, you log in and zone into your raid zone of choice and you see the little message telling you that you have precious few hours before all your work is forgotten and the raid instance will reset. Thursday, we had cleared through the Keepers and General Vezax, and we were once again facing the Old god of Death, Yogg Saron. I had read that you learn this fight one Phase at a time and I can certainly agree with that sentiment. We still had some minor issues in Phase 1, but for the most part, we got through Phase 1 relatively clean. Apparently, the Green Clouds had less candy in them last night than our previous attempts. We had a new DPS this time, Magnusson, our Holy turned Retribution Paladin, who had not done Phase 2 before. To be honest, I think we had pushed Yogg to Phase 2 maybe a half dozen times previously, so it was still pretty new for all of us. There is so much going on Phase 2, its just nuts. For those of you who might not have seen the fight yet, what happ...
