Crystal are likely not replaced by the stage you suggest due to the gemming options, I didn't replace mine till 80 finding a decent upgrade vs the raw stats / gem combinations on the Crystalforged.
Everyone has different ways of evaluating gear, so you may feel you didn't find an upgrade until 80, I feel the Tundra Pauldrons are better.
So let's look at it.
Tundra Pauldrons versus Crystalforge.
The difference is Block Value/Armor for Stamina, and that is assuming stamina gems in the slot in T5. The strength, defense, dodge/parry are essentially a wash.
I could certainly see where someone could reasonably say that T5 is better than Tundra.
I think it's much tougher to make the case that T5 is better than Tempered Saronite (the next shoulders on my list). The only thing going for T5 in a comparison against the Saronite shoulders (Level 76) is some pure avoidance from Parry. Everywhere else, Tempered Saronite is better.
So, I may need to bump up T5 one slot.
Also remember you can double gem the Crystalforged for defense, so yes you lack stam (~500 health) but you can gain 32 defense onto them putting the crystalforged ahead by 26, all depends what you value in rating them.
That's a great point and worth considering.
