Pathfinder, Mythics and Alts

Pathfinder One of my goals has been working towards finishing Broken Isles Pathfinder, Part One. In Warlords of Draenor, I was a little behind the curve on the flying meta and competing with flyers for the rare kills you needed for Order of the Awakened rept was difficult. I had already completed the A Glorious Campaign. Variety is the Spice of Life and Loremaster of Legion achievements. All that was left was Broken Isles Explorer and Broken Isles Diplomat. For Diplomat, the only one I was missing was Wardens. Ironically, the best way to get Wardens rep was to do the Kirin Tor Emisary. First of all, you only needed to do three quests for that Emissary and I always do all the Ley Line Race ones. The Kirin Tor Emissary lets you pick a reputation token that gives you 1500 reputation with one of the Broken Isles factions. For Broken Isles Explorer, I was missing a couple like Trueshot Lodge, and the Gloaming Reef. After running around a bit, I knocked those out and finished Brok...

Going Down

It was a somewhat temperate night in South Carolina so my wife and I decided to try to stick it out. The new A/C is being installed on Thursday, so it would just be Tuesday and Wednesday night we had to deal with the heat. My guild was most happy to see me online. My Raid Leader asked me to make up some Mana Injectors before the raid, which I did quite happily. I often feel bad that I don't contribute more to our Guild Bank. I don't have a gathering profession, and as a Tank, I don't solo or farm well. So it's hard for me to really contribute much. I did enjoy this opportunity to help out, even with other people's mats. We got to Mount Hyjal and started pulling trash. I could sense a vibe in the raid. We just weren't concentrating the way we should have been. I'm sure every guild runs into that from time to time. It's a familiar instance, with familiar people, doing their familiar jobs. Warcraft can be rather unforgiving if you aren't on your gam...

Crossroads For The Warrior

Sunday was interesting. I was in my usual spot Sunday morning at Church. I don't talk about my faith much (at all) in the blog. I've made veiled references to it from time to time, and I've included some links in my sidebar, but I've never really talked about it much. I've always been told not to discuss religon or politics because of how volitile those subjects can be. I'm also concerned because I don't always live out my faith the way it's supposed to be lived out. In any number of ways, I've made a jerk of myself to people. If I've ever shown you kindness, compassion, and generosity, attribute that to my faith. If I've ever shown you malice, selfishness, pettyness (is that a word?), attribute that to my own self. I'm on a journey, and I haven't mastered everything my faith is trying to teach me. Wow, did I get off on a tangent or what? My faith and World of Warcraft don't usually cross paths very often (read never). T...

Bench Warmer

This is the part of your day where you come to my humble little blog to read about whatever exciting adventures I had the previous night in WoW. Only I didn't have any exciting adventures last night. I came back from my mini WoW vacation all ready to go, and excited to be able to raid with my guild. I logged on earlier than usual to make sure I had everything I would need. During my vacation, the guild had started working on Kael'thalas. That is pretty cool. I was hoping to get an invite, but it wasn't to be. Instead, a trial Feral Druid was taken along with our usual MT and OT. At least I had the presence of mind not to make a jerk of myself. I simply whispered the Raid Leader to tell her I was available so I would get sub credit on DKP. I can understand wanting to keep the group the same from the previous evenings attempts on Kael, however, by my count, there were at least 3 or 4 new people in the raid. The raid leader preference was for Feral druids because they could do...

Name The Warrior Contest

My guild, Dominion, made some very good progress on Lady Vashj last night. Twice, they got her into Phase 3. The best attempt was a 5% wipe when they lost the Main Tank (Kee), then the offtank (Vlad) got static charged, and rooted at the same time. My night started out kind of rough. We had a hail storm in my city. We hardly ever get weather like that. Our close proximity to the coast usually protects us from tornadic thunderstorms. My daughter was a little freaked out by the hail hitting on our roof, so I sat up with her until the storm passed. Nothing like wrapping your arms around Daddy to make you feel safe. I emailed my RL (from my cell) and let her know I would be late and to please replace me with someone else. It was a courtesy because I had already been told I wouldn't be in for Vashj, but in case she had been counting on me for Lurker, I wanted to let her know I would be delayed. I finally logged in and they were working on Lurker. I respec Honors back to Prot (yeah...

No Raid Tuesday

We didn’t raid Tuesday night. I’m not sure exactly why but I think it was because our Raid Leader was ill. So we didn’t get another kill on Hydross/Lurker. So instead of raiding, I was doing Dailies, fishing, and playing my alts. I got my Hunter up to level 62. Ganking in Hellfire Peninsula is an order of magnitude worse than when I leveled Honorshammer, and it’s especially bad around the little Cenarion Camp in western Hellfire. I play on a PVP server, so I understand that ganking comes with the territory. I had one run in with a Horde hunter that was particularly bad. We must have had all the same quests because I ran into him killing Void Walkers. He engaged and killed me. No big deal, PVP server. I came back, drank and bandaged up and attacked him. I had every advantage I could think of: he was engaged with a mob and I got the drop on him. He killed me anyway. Okay, time to find another quest to do. I go halfway across the zone and start working on another quest. He must have had t...

Wasted Weekend

Image
The weekend was something of a bust. Friday night, our SSC raid was cancelled due to lack of people online, and our attempts to reschedule on Saturday proved no better. We couldn’t even get a Zul’Aman group going. I understand we are a “casual guild that raids”, but it’s frustrating seeing Raids get cancelled. I spent some time grinding Consortium rep and farming for Primals. I even worked on my Fishing (all the way up to 150).When you are in a Raid group, you can’t do Daily’s and you can’t quest at all. My favorite place to grind Consortium rep is The Heap south of Netherstorm. I can pull a group of 6-8 and take them down with Consecrate, Holy Shield and my Petrified Lichen Guard . I could take larger groups but I play on a PVP server and there always seem to be some friendly Undead Rogue or Tauren Shaman ready to help those pesky Ethereals. I also got my Hunter, Honorshummer, to level 60 so I grabbed a couple of guys to go into Zul’Gurub to tame one of the tigers there. The tiger sk...

And the Winner Is

And now we bring you the next episode in the continuing saga of the alt. I've got it pretty much narrowed down to the Hunter or the Mage. I really think I'd dig a Warlock, but I just can't get past the whole evil Demon guy thing. I like to play good guys, and we are supposed to be fighting against the Demons in the story, not making friends with them. Plus, I'm never sure who is controlling who with a Warlock and its pet. I decided to knock out any class with a healing spell. I've fought that battle on Honors. If I roll a class with Healing spell, I'll roll it with the intention of being a Healer. Most likely choice for this would be a Druid. That leaves Rogue, Warrior, Mage, and Hunter. Honors being a melee character, I'd prefer to go range on the alt. I've played both a Mage and a Hunter to the 30s, and the bottom line is I like the Hunter. The biggest deterrent to leveling the Hunter is that it seems many many people dig Hunters. Hunters are the most ...

Taking Leave Of My Senses

Okay, this is probably a crazy idea, but here goes. I was on the PTR the other day and I saw one of the new Engineering Flying Mounts. Wow, they look soooooo cool. I was an Engineer pre BC, but I dropped it to level up Jewelcrafting. Jewelcrafting has done very nice for me and my guildies (both current and former). I've noticed that I don't hardly mine much anymore. Most of my playtime is spent in an instance, or Ogril'la or Ruins of Karabor. So I've started saving mats to grind up Engineering. The BoP helm is a nice bonus, but I'm doing it mostly for the mount. I really missed the Teleporters. The cooldown was a bit excessive though. Now comes word that the Potion Injectors can used by non Engineers so maybe there is some hope for the profession. So far I've got most of the mats for the early levels. I know the rough part will be all the thorium, fel iron and adamantite I need. I'm going to farm up as much of it as I can before I drop Mining. In other news,...

ALTernate Reality

I've added a Poll to ask "Which Alt should I level up". The goal for this alt is to be first and foremost a DPS character. I've done healing and tanking with Honorshammer (main, Paladin), now I'd like a DPS character. I do not like being a "clothie", and the whole Demon pet Warlock thing just freaks me out. My options are: Raijin, the Shaman. He's pretty cool. The Totems are bit annoying in that you have to wait to make sure they don't aggro anything after you drop them. Making a DPS Shaman is another "offspec" so I could run into some of the same issues I run into with Hammer. I'd also have to battle a bit for him to be true DPS and not a healer, although I may find that what I didn't like was the way Paladin's healed, not the whole Healer thing. Hummer, the Hunter. He's a lot of fun, but the problem is my current guild seems to have dozens of Hunters. I helped Lumi's alt Hunter get through Durnholde and our other D...

Decisions, Decisions

I ran a couple of WSG rounds with my guild last night. It took a couple of games to get a full group together but it was fun. We won some and we lost some. The great thing about Guild PVP night is that you look up at the end of the night and you've got all this honor and marks and you don't even feel like you hard to work at it, because you had so much fun. I can see why people don't like doing solo BGs. My only regret was that I couldn't go longer. I made a couple of decisions. First off, I went ahead and bought a PVP Mechostrider. He's cool and as a bonus it's effected by Crusader Aura just like my Charger. Opponents don't know what I am quite as quickly. I mean nothing says Paladin quite like riding in on the Charger. The other thing I've decided is that I'm going to stick with my hunter. Out of all the alts I considered my reason for dismissing him was the weakest. I can always get groups with the guild and he's not an "endgame" cha...

Oh Alting we will go

I've always had a thing for alts. I love them, but I've always had a hard time getting one really going. They always seem to kind of peter out around level 15-20. Its just hard for me to find a class I like as much as a Paladin. I've played every class except Warlock to at least that range. I just can't bring myself to play a Warlock, the whole play with demons thing just freaks me out. /shudder One thing I've learned, I don't like cloth classes. I hate feeling so squishy. Leather is not much better, with the notable exception of Druids. My problem righ tnow, is a really good friend rolled on AoS. He's got a mage around level 34. I'd love to run with him at that level, but I can't seem to focus on one alt long enough to catch up to him. So lets toss out all the cloth classes. That leaves 6. My Shaman felt too much like my Paladin. Melee, melee, Shock, instead of melee, melee, Judge. My rogue was very hard to keep alive. I keep dying with him. I proba...
