And Scrappy Too

I hated Scrappy Doo. He inclusion took a good show, Scooby Doo, and just ruined it. You can still catch the original Scooby Doo in all it's glory on Boomerang.

What got me thinking about Scrappy Doo was the "Honest Scrap" Award that has been working it's way through the blogsphere. At first I thought this was just the virus Conflicker at work, but alas I seem to be wrong.

It seems I was hit on two fronts, getting the award from both Baelor from Eye for an Eye, and also Rhidach from Righteous Defense.

It was gratifying reading my selection from Rhidach. Apparently, he got into this whole blogging thing partly because of my own blog. He also lead me to a couple of other Tankadin blogs which I appreciate.

Since I pride myself as being a Lawful Good Paladin, I shall follow the rules of this award.

  1. When accepting this auspicious award, you must write a post bragging about it, including the name of the misguided soul who thinks you deserve such acclaim, and link back to the said person so everyone knows she/he is real.

  2. Choose a minimum of seven (7) blogs that you find brilliant in content or design. Or improvise by including bloggers who have no idea who you are because you don’t have seven friends. Show the seven random victims’ names and links and leave a harassing comment informing them that they were prized with Honest Weblog. Well, there’s no prize, but they can keep the nifty icon.

  3. List at least ten (10) honest things about yourself. Then pass it on!

Post bragging about it? Check.

My 7 blogs:

  1. Gevlon of Greedy Goblin - I don't agree with him philosophically, but I want to learn what I can from him to increase my own meager supply of WoW gold. I love how he wraps philosophy and his world view into nearly every post while still staying on topic. I would love to develop that skill more in my own blog.

  2. Loregy - This is a blog that discusses the lore behind the game. I am something of a lore nut and I love reading this blog.

  3. Lakini of Lakini's Stupid Blog - This is one of my guild's Boomkins. I love his writing style, short sweet, and too the point. "I pvp'ed this weekend. Some people died".

  4. Taxiderm of Coming Down With Chickenpox - This is one of my guild's Hunters. His original main was a Death Knight named Chickenpox.

  5. Bacon of Bacon Drippings - This is one of my guild's Resto Druids, and one of the nicest people I've encountered either online or in 'real life'.

  6. Raistilan of PVE In A PVP World - Former Raid Leader from my time in Mal Katai. I wanted to link to my current Raid Leader's blog for uber brownie points, but it seems he's deleted it.

  7. Aoesrus of Kite 'Em and AoE Them Down - Pretty much a dead blog, but the dude's my best friend.

Now the hard part, 10 honest things about myself.

1. I have a job that usually requires a college degree, yet, I don't possess one. I always put down that I went to college on my resume, and even list out the years I went (1991-1993). No one has ever asked why it's only two years or if I even graduated.

2. I am a huge fan of the NFL. My favorite team is the Carolina Panthers. I follow them passionately, and I know most everyone on the roster. If you want to tell if someone is really a fan of a team or just a 'bandwagoner', ask them who the teams Long Snapper is. If they know that they are a true fan. The Panther's Long Snapper is Jason Kyle, but he's a free agent so that might change next season.

3. I am a follower of Christ. I've mentioned it on the blog before, and I would love to be able to weave my world view into my posts more without going completely off topic, or making my readers feel uncomfortable. It really pains me to think about the damage that has been done by people who claim to be followers of Christ but don't live it out.

4. I eat cereal without milk on it. I actually find cereal with milk over about as unappetising as most people find cereal without milk.

5. I've been gaming in one form or another from a very young age. I started playing D&D when I was about 9, and was a GM by 11. I also played RIFTS, Paladium, Marvel Super Heroes, Omega World, Dragonlance and many others. I must have been one of the 5 people who actually liked SpellJammer. I grew up on on an Atari 2600. Many a college night was spent playing Super Techmo Bowl. My first exposure to computer games was Dune, and the first game I played on a computer I owned was X-Wing.

6. I am totally and utterly useless with my hands: fixing a car, doing minor repairs around the house, building something. I've always been a little embarrassed by the fact because it seems like society gives you the idea that men are just born with the ability to do that kind of stuff.

7. I'm a huge fan of the Dave Ramsey show. He has a way of telling you what you need to hear, and being completely honest with you. He can call you stupid and you'll be thanking him for it. He's doing this thing called Town Hall For Hope where he's going to talk about the economy, what got us into this mess, and why we're going to be okay.

8. I'm a Star Wars fan, and I can quote entire scenes from the original three movies. I still have most of my Star Wars toy collection from the late 70s and early 80s. I do let my daughter play with them when she wants to, because, let's face it, they are TOYS! Plus, it's not like I'm going to be selling them, like, ever.

9. If you see a guy in the car next to you in traffic, singing, dancing, using his steering wheel as a drum set and playing air guitar, that could be me.

10. I'm a child of the 80s. Your formative years are 11 to 21. That's when you become who you are going to be. Most of those years for me were spent in the 80s. Transformers, Thundercats, Voltron, GI Joe were some of my favorite shows. Top Gun, and Star Wars were defining movies. (I wanted to be Han, but was always more like Luke).

Ohhhhh X-Wing. That was one of my first computer games too. There is one mission that still haunts me to this day, and likely is where I learned my "never say die" mentality when it comes to accomplishing goals. The mission involved a single wing (4) of X-Wings protecting a medical frigate near an asteroid field against an entire fleet of TIE fighters/bombers - there might have been a Star Destroyer or Dreadnaught involved as well...

Just curious, what'd you think of RIFTS? I always enjoyed reading the books, but could never get the group I played with to try it out instead of D&D or Shadowrun. It looked like a fun game, but it's hard to get a feel for the rules without actually going through a fight or two with them.

Overall I liked it. Great setting, I'd love to see an MMO set in the world.

It had a pretty solid combat system. I wasn't a fan of MegaDamage, but I made some 'house rules' to make it work a little better.

Class balance needed some major work. Mage types were generally very weak, while Mechs seemed very strong. Of course, everyone wanted to play a Juicer.

Even though it was a spoof for April fool's so many ppl responded on it in such a positive way, they are actually thinking of trying to produce it.

Ah Rifts, how I have a love/hate relationship with you. Love the setting, hate the system. It's like putting a lawnmower engine in a lamborgini body. . .
