Burning Crusade Classic Protection Paladin Guide: Macros

I love Macros. They can be really helpful in accomplishing many tasks in game. Most of the Macros I use today are Pickup Macros. They are used to help me pickup targets quickly and make up for my 30something years old reaction time.

General

Flash Divine Shield

#showtooltip Divine Shield

#show Divine Shield

/cast Divine Shield

/cancelaura [modifier:alt] Divine Shield

If I spam it with alt down, it casts Divine Shield then cancels. With no alt down it stays up. I use this in a couple of ways. For one, it's my Fear break. I hit this Fear is gone and I'm back in action. It's also a debuff remover. Hit this, debuff is gone. Most of the time when I use this, I get aggro back so quick, the party doesn't even know I bubbled.

I use this when I'm tanking Nightbane or one of the Ogril'la dragons.

Healthstone

/use Master Healthstone

This will use the highest Healthstone you have in your bags so you don't need to bind a key for each of the 3 different Healthstones you can get.

Trinkets

Top Trinket Slot

This is really nice as I'm constantly changing up my Trinkets, but I can keep them bound to the same key/button.

Downrank Consecration

/cast [nocombat] Consecration(Rank 1); Consecration

When you are not in combat it will use Rank 1, and if you are in combat, it will use Max Rank. I use this in Arena (there are a TON of Rogues and Druids in 2s) when I don't see any targets.

Bubble Hearth

/castsequence reset=3600 Divine Shield, Hearthstone

You aren't truly a member of the Paladin class until you pull off that first successful bubble hearth.

SerpentShrine Cavern (Burning Crusade Classic Phase 2)

Fathom Lord Karathress

This is for tanking Fathom Lord's Hunter, Sharkkis. He can summon one of two pets so you need to be ready for which ever one you are going to get.

Tempest Keep (Burning Crusade Classic Phase 2)

A'lar

I use this for picking up the Adds that are spawned during the Al'ar encounter. This works for both Phase 1 and Phase of Al'ar.

I don't use a cast on this because I need to wait for them to come down in Phase 1.

Mount Hyjal (Burning Crusade Classic Phase 3)

Anetheron

Anetheron, the second Boss in Mount Hyjal. If I'm not tanking Antheron himself, I'm on Infernals. I found this macro to help me pick them up.

/cast Exorcism

I spam that as soon as I see Anetheron casting while trying to run in the general direction of the person targeted.

Azgalor

Usually I'm on Doomguard duty. I Consecrate on top of the person in case I'm silenced when the Doomguard actually spawns, then I use.

Zul'Aman (Burning Crusade Classic Phase 4)

In ZA, I use a macro for picking up the Spirit Lynx during the Lynx Boss encounter.

The biggest mistake I make with this macro is NOT having a Seal up.

I mentioned towards the end of my last post that I would be switching my Hunter from Skinning to Engineering. Well the little caveat I made about not gimping myself turned out to be pretty important. I had a brief Twitter conversation with Fiest the Rogue. If you care about high end PVE raiding, you need to be following @ FiesttheRogue . He is a tremendous resource and very helpful. He gave me a link to an EJ article and explained to me that for melee DPS and Hunters Engineering is not competitive with what is provided by the other professions. Its fantastic for casters apparently, but I'm not a caster. Other classes can get equal STR or INT to the AGI you see here. Tanks have the option for Stamina. Raid Comp Tool

Thanks to Matticus to telling me about this on Twitter. mmo-champion has produced a new Raid Composition tool, you can see it here: http://raidcomp.mmo-champion.com/ On the left you have all 30 'classes'. Every spec of every class is presented. In the center are your groups. I have no idea why they have this set up with 8 groups. You'd only ever see 8 groups (40 players) in AV and you have almost 0 control over the composition in that arena. Then on the right you have the raid buffs, and a count of Healers, Ranged, Melee, and Tanks. You drag the class from the left and drop it on the raid group slot. Your count is increased, and the buffs that you have covered light up in green. Let me pick a class/spec completely at random. Protection Paladin. There. Say you pull over a Protection Paladin and put them in group 1. Back To Basics: The 969 Paladin Threat Rotation

Protection Paladins are one of the last classes in WoW that still have a Rinse and Repeat rotation known affectionately as 969. The 969 rotation was discovered in Wrath of the Lich King Beta by Psiven who then taught it to the rest of the community via Maintankadin. It begins by recognizing that the main Protection Paladin threat moves all come in varieties of 8 to 9 second cooldowns and 6 second cooldowns. We treat the 8 second cooldown moves as 9 seconds to better fit with a 1.5 second global cooldown. The 9s are Judgment (talented), Consecrate and Holy Shield. The 6s are Hammer of the Righteous and Shield of Righteousness. The 9 second and 6 second cooldowns are rotated and alternated. With a 1.5 second global cooldown, this all fits together into a fairly tight rotation. The way this works in practice is that you lead off your threat rotation with a 9 second talented cooldown Judgment.
