Opportunity Cost

I got a fantastic email from someone, we'll call him Dave, regarding my profession conundrum. You specifically mention farming low level dungeons for greens to DE to skill up enchanting. Its a common mis-conception but this is not "free" materials. Likewise if you mine your own ore for JC the materials there are not "free" either. If you can get cash in any other way that is faster than this then mining is NOT a money making profession, it is in fact a money LOSING profession. It is my experience that just doing dailies is better cash/time than mining/herbalism and therefore Mining is note "Excellent" at gold making, it is horrible. Quite literally the only reason to have mining is for smelting and on an alt this works just fine. If you need mats to skill up, check what they cost, figure out how long it would take you to farm them, and then figure out what your gold rate per hour doing dailies is. 99% of the time farming them is a money loser...ju...

And Scrappy Too

I hated Scrappy Doo. He inclusion took a good show, Scooby Doo, and just ruined it. You can still catch the original Scooby Doo in all it's glory on Boomerang. What got me thinking about Scrappy Doo was the "Honest Scrap" Award that has been working it's way through the blogsphere. At first I thought this was just the virus Conflicker at work, but alas I seem to be wrong. It seems I was hit on two fronts, getting the award from both Baelor from Eye for an Eye , and also Rhidach from Righteous Defense . It was gratifying reading my selection from Rhidach. Apparently, he got into this whole blogging thing partly because of my own blog. He also lead me to a couple of other Tankadin blogs which I appreciate. Since I pride myself as being a Lawful Good Paladin, I shall follow the rules of this award. When accepting this auspicious award, you must write a post bragging about it, including the name of the misguided soul who thinks you deserve such acclaim, and li...

ANNOUCEMENT: I Am The Warrior!

Apologies to Scandal . A fter much thinking and a cou p le of sleepless nights, I've decided to make Honorsguard, my level 59 Warrio r my new main. All the 4 tank classes are relatively similar in physical m i tigation these days, but for magical mitigation, the developers seem to keep pushing Paladins further and further behind. Al l tanks, save the Paladins, have 2 or more active cooldowns they can use on a very short cooldown. Paladins have 1. Even in Tier 7 gear, it is possible F or a Warrior to get passively unhittable, emulating a Paladin's smooth damage intake. And the icing o n the cake. the straw the broke the camels back if you will, the Warrior T8 set bonus. 20% damage reduction from all sources when they use Shield Block (a 40 second cooldown that increases their block by 100%). Plus swinging two handers is cool, and no o ne will ever ask me to heal. It is finished. I am finished. Vene, Ciderhelm I pledge my fea l ty to you. I'll keep Honorshamme...

Salute to BRK

BigRedKitty has called it quits on WoW and Blogging and after reading his goodbye post , I agree with his decision 1000%. All of us have to be cognisant of the place WoW holds in our lives and we need to maintain a balance. My Dad always made an analogy to juggling balls. The more things you add to your life, the harder it is to juggle all those balls. Eventually, BRK decided that he had to let the WoW and Blog 'balls' drop, so he could keep other balls like his marriage and his children spinning. If I ever got the impression my WoW time, or Blogging time was having a negative impact on my marriage, or my time with my daughter, I'd be gone in a skinny minute. BRK was one of the first WoW Blogs that I read, and it was a big part of why I got into Blogging in the first place. He had a way of making it sound like he was having so much fun playing his Hunter, and he was helping others who enjoyed the class as well. I wanted to do something like that for Protection Pal...

The Few, The Proud, Heroes Inc

Let me bring you up to speed on what's been going on with Honorshammer lately. My recently renamed Raid Team got together and did a run for "The Dedicated Few". We are basically just working on Achievements right now. Most of the veterans of my raid team need only 4 Achievements (Shocking, Undying, Sarth3D, 6 Min Maly) to get Glory of the Raider. Some of us had this crazy idea that we might pull off "Undying" as well, but we made sure that wasn't going to happen fairly early. I felt bad for the Rogue who had to sit out since we had nine people ready to go at the start. Hopefully, we'll be able to do this again so he can get it. Dedicated Few was actually pretty fun. I ended up dying on Maexna because we had two Enraged Web Wraps. I was able to Bubble Wall the first one, but I had nothing for the second. Lay On Hands doesn't work while you are web wrapped, and all your avoidance is taken away. We were also hoping to get Shocking, where you d...

It Felt Really Good

Image
By honorshammer at 2009-03-30 Thunderbolt was one of the Warlocks I did Tier 6 content with during my time in Dominion. Raist is the Guild Leader of Salvation and a guy did Tier 4 and 5 with in Mal Katai. It is really nice to know that people you've gone to battle with both respect and admire your play. Thanks guys! I appreciate it!

What Do I Want To Be

To me, the question was always between Mining and Blacksmithing as for my new profession once I drop Engineering. But last night, one of my guild mates suggested I also evaluate becoming an Enchanter. I need to evaluate what it is I want from my Profession slots. Basically, I'm after two things. A) Raid utility competitive (not necessarily better, but within a few percents) of any other profession and B) a way to make some gold for my character. Jewelcrafting does both in spades, and it is a very popular profession. Engineering fails on both accounts A and B, and that is a large part of the reason I'm looking at dropping it. What follows is my brief analysis of each profession, with help from the Elitist Jerks profession analysis thread . Mining Raid Utility: 50 stamina Gold making: Excellent Blacksmithing Raid Utility: 2 extra sockets, flexibility Gold Making: Poor Enchanting Raid Utility: Ring Enchants (24 stam x 2 = 48 stam, AP enchants for Ret) Gold Making: Good While I hav...
